Thank you for posting a link to the recording. So sad to hear of another teen suicide in Buffalo. Anderson Cooper did a wonderful job covering the story of Jamey Rodemeyer’s death.

You are most welcome ISEPP! I feel it’s so important to get information out about suicide so others may learn about it, learn that almost 1 million die worldwide by suicide each year, learn what to look for so they may have the opportunity to reach out, get involved and help save lives.

The suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer was so very sad and he had suffered for years being bullied both in his everyday life as well as online. Bullying needs to stop and it starts with the parents teaching their children it’s not okay EVER! Jamey was such a beautiful soul and after watching his “It Gets Better” video, I felt extremely sad that this young boy had been mercilessly ridiculed and put down for being who he was. I have not yet watched Anderson’s coverage, but after seeing his coverage where he and his mother shared their loss of his brother Carter earlier this week, I can imagine he’d be very compassionate as he has felt the loss suicide leaves.

I also read a wonderful article by the Washington Post which included 2 videos, one was Jamey’s “It Gets Better” video, the other a newsclip by WGRZ who did a remarkably responsible reporting, one of the best I’ve seen by media where they not only mentioned that we need to teach our children to never bully, but they also mentioned suicide was not the answer and gave 2 suicide prevention hotline phone numbers as well. The media is often afraid to broach the subject of suicide, and when they do, it’s often done poorly and irresponsibly, not following the media guidelines at all. I’m including a link here for this piece as it was done so well. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/jamey-rodemeyer-bullied-teen-who-made-it-gets-better-video-commits-suicide/2011/09/21/gIQAVVzxkK_blog.html

I want to thank you once again for sharing our call, I’ve also created my own Facebook page called “Suicide Shatters” and am having good connection there posting about suicide, prevention and mental illness. http://www.facebook.com/SuicideShatters
